Do you guys have a particular style of furniture you prefer to build? Does that style differ from your personal taste?

I love to build craftsman style as well as some more modern pieces with contrasting woods, similar to David Marks works. I haven't had a chance to build too much of the more modern works but I dream of it when I get free time. My personal taste is nothing like what I like to build though so we don't end up with much furniture that I've built :D

By furniture, I would include desks, entertainment centers, etc in that group... Once again, for me it would be painted MDF. I know it's a horrible preference, especially on a woodworking forum, but I just prefer the simplistic look.

My simplistic tastes have even moved to the kitchen. I'm getting to where I don't like raised panel doors... Just a rolled edge solid door and uses euro-style hinges, only the kitchen MUST have real wood grain.

Now, dad builds a lot of the corner cabinets and such that have what I would consider a bit more of the country feel to it... Just not my style... The details always remind me of pinstriping on a mid-80's 1-ton dually.

Sounds like you lean toward modern or mid century modern in a way. Simple and clean.

Yup. My tastes lean more towards the Empire than the Alliance... The organic shapes bother me because the symmetry just isn't there. If given the chance (and money) my house would like like a Death Star. (on the inside)

God, I'm a dork...

I'm a symmetry guy as well, I don't like the organic as much as symmetrical design. I can do fluid lines as long as there is symmetry although I can get into the organic stuff too but don't.

Don't know if I have a particular style, I usually go with whatever happens to strike my fancy unless its a custom build for a customer.
I get a lot of requests for replication work.

I get a picture in my head then see what my tallent & tools come out with.
(Tallent & tools a little weak but both are improving, with the help of you all in the forum).
The picture posted here have given me lots of ideas. Now, like the rest of you, I need more time.

i am sure that we could all go into it for awhile, I am more of an ecclectic kind of guy... I do love to do the more modernistic things, but I do also love to get into some ornately done and intricate things at times.. As others have said, lately it depends upon the customer... Hmm those darn bills are creeping in the picture again...

My problem is I love to build and see what creation I have at the end.. I have been known to start something and change it away from the design and/or the plans...

Looking back at most of my work, freestanding pieces are usually very traditional. Anything goes with built-ins though.
