 This seems so simple, but I can't find it! One of the guys I work with came to me to find some Oak flooring for a patch in his floor. It's going to have to match up somewhat to the original, which is circa 1920-30. Simple T/G about 7/8" thick (never sanded), and maybe 1-1/2" wide. I tried my typical local outlets for this type of item, but to no luck. I've got a few more places up my sleeve to try, but I'm curios as to if anyone knows of any online places to look.

Hey, Lee. Depending on how big the patch is you may want to look into machining something yourself. If the house is all wood flooring then possibly rob some out of a closet or other not so valuable spot, then replace with something else. I haven't seen "standard" wood flooring that narrow. Another option is to try to find the oldest millwork house in the area. They might have something you can modify or something they can run for you. Do you have a section of the material? I'm sure a wood flooring company in the area can solve the problem. Good luck.

I'm not sure what the guy's gonna do. At a rough measurement, we have the T/G heads for the shapers to do it, as well as a huge selection of Oak in the needed length/width/thickness. It's all up to him, if he's going to rob his closets or have it made.

It seems to me that if the patch is small enough to take it from a closet floor, then it would be fairly cheap to make some up. Certainly easier than removing some from the closet and replacing it, then installing the closet pieces in the patch location. Flooring is a snap to run off if it's just a few pieces.

He's opted to do it all wrong. :( He's going to simply put non-T/G in the area.

Regrettably.. The customer does not always do the right thing or for that matter, the sensible thing... Don't get frustrated... It happens to all at some time or another...

Well, he's been working on it for a while now, and actually got it looking pretty dang good. I coaxed him to pull up the hardwood floors in the closet, and use that to fill his "patch". He took his time, and the sanded product looks great.

He's already made the comment that if he ever has another patch to do, it's getting carpet! :D
