My Craftsman router just buggered up again. The first thing that happened was that some chips found there way intot he fan and broke off a few teeth, so I broke off some on the opposite side to balance it and now its gotten worse. So bad infact that it vibrates enough to "self-adjust" the leveling screws on my plate. I've looked at a few routers and I think the Triton 2 1/4hp is the best bang for my buck. The current router is a 9.5A and this one is 11A. I'm working on some large raisedpanels using a 3 1/4" dia. bit so I need power. What are your opinions on this router, or any alternatives?

Heres the link to it...

Sorry, don't have any experience with it, but it looks like a good one. I like the heavy Porter Cables myself. Their heavy plunge is a beast at about 3-1/4" HP if I remember right. I'll check mine tonight for the model number and amps.

I also like the porter cables too, basic simple effective design with excellent quality, I just cant afford one at the moment. Ill keep an eye out in the papers for a used one tho.

The Porter-Cable 7518 (3 1/4 hp) has been the workhorse in the high end router market for years. You can't really go wrong with it.

However, such routers are almost always used in router tables. The 7518 doesn't have "above the table" height adjustment -- so a $150+ router lifter is usually "needed" at some point.

Newer router models (and I think the Triton is one of them) have "above the table" height adjusters already built in.

IMHO -- if I was in the cabinet business, I'd probably go with the PC 7518. But being a hobbyist and cheap besides, I think any of the newer 2 1/4 hp routers with variable speed would be adequate for my needs.
