Heres some pics of the latest major furniture projects I've completed.

This is a Pine bookcase I made for my girlfriend, It looks a bit tall but it needed to be for the room it was in. The face frame is all mortice and tenon, then buscuited onto the case which is rebated/dadoed together. The trim is a 2 piece that I made from 2 different router bit profiles.

This is one of the projects I completed in school. Its made out of butternut and was quite a challenge do to the scarcity of good wood, but we made it work!

This is a miniature buffet and hutch I made for a freind of mine, he gave it to his daughter. The whole thing stands about 4ft high.

Very nice!
Though the mini hutch confused me for a while... Actually had to read before I figured out it was for a child! :D

Ya, it was a challenge to build, had to do a lot of drawings to get the scales all right. The worst part was the doors. The trim is all buscuited on, and mitered, even the drawer fronts. I id this becasue the customer wanted it done quick and cheap. I had a problem getting the panels and trim to line up flat. I went through 2 sets of doors (sanded through the veneer!!!). Turned out nice tho, and learned alot on the way (isnt that the point lol)

You've been busy.
Nice book case to be used out doors, eh? Water/snow proof finish? lol :)
Nice work. Mini hutch very nice. Must be a very good firend.
I simply liked the color of the pine bookcase and thought it would look good on the home page, hope you don't mind, Alex - congrats.
All the best, Don
Thank you very much sir, makes a guy smile to see his projects highlighted. I'd tell ya'll the colour but I honestly dont know what it is. I mixed a little of this and a little of that to get it to match a prexisting dresser in my girlfriends room, but upcoming projects will force me to reinvent it! lol.
Thanks again, Alex
Well here's 2 more projects I've got done. Now I can move on to the Bar!
This is a sign I made for the end of our laneway. The "writing" was done on the CNC when I was in college. The slab is comprised of 1 1/2" pne dovetailed together for strength. The outer trimmings are 3/4" pine and I kind of made up the design as I went along. (Wish I could have hid the dadoes, but I was going for simplicity). I also created a post to hold the sign out of hemlock that was originally a support beam in the grainery of my grandfathers barn. I've finished both with spar urethane. When I have given them to my father for x-mas I will post more pics.

Very nice work!
Well here we go again! This is the aformentioned sign I built, and another picture frame I built (also a gift for my dad). Some of you may have noticed that I like to utilize the knots in the pine to add character to the piece, it also adds a bit of a challenge to the design and joinery.

I guess Ill brag some more! Heres some magazine racks that I made, I've worked on them on and off for about 4 years, kindof a fill in project. There were 3 but my brother already snagged one.
(Note: The different designs, the dowels were cheaper than the turnings and the end designs are different, The one with the larger curves was designed for template routing, and is more pleasing IMO. I also glued in a peice of oak across the grain through the feet to add strength.)

Very well done, those will be family heirlooms. Always remember to sign and date your work - the bottom of these would be perfect for that. In the future someone will appreciate that you did and it just seems to make stuff that much more valuable and interesting. 100 years from now they will be able to identify your work much easier on the Antique Road Show. I've even gone as far as having labels made for pieces. With todays printers you can make your own custom label and have a generic area on the label for a bit of a description of the peice. You will get a measure of satisfaction each time you finish a peice and apply a label. Everything you make, small or large should be marked. Just think how much more interesting all the peices out there would be if all craftsmen did, there's no shame in identifying your work.
Looks like you might be picture of the month again, okay?
all the best, Don
Thank you again Don, I always appreciate comments from an experienced woodworker like yourself.
As for the labeling, I always forget to do it! I think getting labels printed would be a brilliant idea. I'd also include the stain colour and customers name (as well as my name and other notes) that way you can create matching pieces down the road.
Thanks Again
Alex
