View Full Version : Pine Bar
I did a quick search but foind nothing on the subject.
Recently I have been asked to build a bar out of pine (possibly old barn boards, my poor planer). My questions are: What is the typical height of the actual bar? and what is the overhang of the bar to facilitate bar stool movement? Any ideas or pictures of bars would be greatly apprecited. I plan on making the bar with raised panels or possibly flat panels.
Thanks, Alex

Why not walk into your friendly neighborhood tavern with a tape measure?

Just make sure to have the barkeep write it down for you, and pin it to your shirt...
But for some reason, the number 42" is stuck in my head. And having a 12" overhang is nice, so you're not banging your knees against the front all the time. You may also want to look into putting a nice foot ledge at the bottom for us short fellas.
Thanks, I researched a bit more and came up with anywhaere from the aformetioned measurments of 42" and 12" to 48" and 18". Ill measure the island/bar they already have in there kitchen because they seem to like those measurments.. This will be the first large project I've built for someone other than family so i dont wanna mess it up! I've also got to somewho intigrate the bar into a wall unit display cabinet. Originally they wanted the bar butted up against that wall, But now im thinking that would be a good place for the entrance to the back of the bar because it would facilitate a full wall of cabinets without a break. Ill no more when I measure out the room and get some feedback from them. Thanks again
p.s. It's gotta fit down into a basement...gotta make it sectional!
Kl0wns got the right numbers to start with.
