Hi all,

I'm working on building my own kitchen cabinet doors - raised panel with arches across the top. A couple are the same size and just screams for me to make some templates to make the routing much much easier. I'm trying to find a good double-sided tape to affix the templates to the work piece. I've tried some from Lowe's, Home Depot, etc and I'm finding that they're a pain to use as they don't stick to wood all that well. Anyone out there have some recommendations?

Thanks!

You might try an auto-paint store. Moulding tape is typically much stronger than the stuff you buy at either AutoZone, Home Depot, etc... But it is pricier there as well.

I found a double sided duct tape at Home Depot that holds really well. The only difficult part is getting the top film off.

I get tape at Woodcraft and it works well for me. A catalog that carries woodturning supplies (e.g Packardwoodworks.com) probably has tape that would work well also.

Try a golf store. Double sided tape is used to put on new club grips. The left over I have from installing new grips is pretty strong. I've used it for holding templates for my router. Holds good.

Hey, Tim. One of the easiest ways to hold templates fast is to simply make them oversize and use your brad nailer to fasten them to spoilboards. Use some scrap ripped material to hold your workpiece from moving and then fasten the template to to those over the workpiece. The savings in time here is that you can then "center" different size doors into your quickie jig.

All the best, Don

Give me your mailing address and I'll send you a roll. I buy it by the case here.

I am not sure about all area's but I bought some at Lowe's it was the carpet tape and worked great. I noticed there are 2 different kinds at Lowe's and Home Depot. But that was in South Louisiana.

They had another double sided that was less expensive and not as sticky.

FastCap has a tape they call SpeedTape that reads pretty good. Look at theirs, www.fastcap.com
