As a kid, I tore apart a remote control truck and combined it with some LEGO's, part of an Erector Set, and a few chunks of 2X4... Technically, it was a wooden hull. Just looked like a model of something you'd see on Beverley Hillbillys...

I guess that counts. None of my toys lasted very long either. I was always too anxious to get inside them to see how they worked. The parts always ended up making something much more interesting.

Agreed, and disagreed... Anything mechanical was taken apart within 24 hours, and combined with some other contraption... Yet, I'm the kid who has entire collections of action figures still in the box, that I've been collecting for 15+ years. :D

As for boats, no... Now, my grandpa used to do the airplanes back in the day. The ones with the Balsa skeleton and gas motors. Only one has survived over the years, semi-intact.

I built a 16 foot redwood canoe. no pictures, I think it was before cameras. rip 3/4 redwood into 1/4" strips. Glue the edges of the strips & tack to a plywood frame/mold. Fiberglass inside & outside. Oak gunnels, seats & yoke. soft pine keel.
