Hey everyone:

I am about to bitethe bullet and get some router bits and need some suggestions. This is one of the things that I won't buy from Harbor..

So, most of the stuff I am and will be working on as far as building goes will be from Walnut. Picture frames, a couple side tables for the bedroom and a couple clocks, oh yea, a couple jewlery boxes. I am going to be busy and am starting on Christmas gifts now.

So, with this in mind, what do you recomend as far as a manufacturer? And should I get a set like this one?

I don't minding spendingthe money, I just want something that will last and give me good clean cuts. :):D

Please let me have you suggestions.

Thanks and take care

Danno,

I have been very satisfied with bits I bought from Rockler and Freud.

Hey, Danno. Router bits are something that the more you have the better off you are. More often than not, spending a lot of money on just a few bits limits your abilities. There's nothing wrong with having a quiver full of the cheap stuff for the average person. When you get into repetitive building of a particular item and have the design down, then invest in an expensive bit for that particular project(s).

Even a cheap bit will last a while, the cost for sharpening a cheap or expensive one is about the same and that aint too cheap.

But as Joe allowed above. You won't be disappointed on the name brands. Woodcrafters has a line of "whiteside" bits that are good looking too. Great selection.

If you have a 1/2" router, then one or two of the "multi-profile" bits is a good investment.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

All the best, Don

Thanks for input guys..
I always thought you HAD to spend $40 or so for a good router bit.

Whaty I am looking for is some bits to make some trim for a couple jewlery boxes, cutting boards, clocks and picture frames as gifts.

I will but a couple cheap ones and see how they do and will also post some photos as I go along on these projects. First up is a frame for a John Fogerty poster we got at his show here in Atlanta earlier this year.. The show was just great, now I hope I can make a frame that is good enough for it!

Thanks again an dtake care
