Hey Don and everyone:
My wife wants me to build a simple clothes hamper, but I can't find any plans and I am not good at this part of doing a new project.
Would you or anyone else mind making a sketch with dimensions so I can get started on this little home project? I am itching to use my new Hitachi table saw.
Thanks in advance for any and all help/suggestions.
Take care
Dan

OK, I am a dork. I made a sketch of a hamper I made last year (pretty much same story: new table saw, wife wants a hamper), but it was on a program that doesn't save to any other format but itself (a linux program). Sigh.
Anyway, I made a really simple but effective hamper with 3/4" pine plywood, although it's a tad heavy and I doubt 3/4" is necessary.
The assembled dimensions: The bottom is a 24" square. The front is a 24" square. The back is 33" high by 24" wide. The sides are where the trick was: the back part of the side is 33" high, which extends 8" then angles down to 24" at the front. I used a straight edge and circular saw to cut this angle, and cut both sides at once. This makes an angled front that a lid can be hinged on that opens to the side. Also, it makes it easier for us to grab stuff out of it, since me & the wife are both short. It's like a simple box, with the upper front corner cut off at an angle.
I made the lid to fit (can't remember dimensions), but beveled the top and sides of it about 30 degrees so that there was some airflow. I held the pieces together with pocket screws and glue.
I recommend NOT making the lid perfectly fitting or air tight. Also, make sure to use KILLZ or some other primer before you paint it.
I think I made it from a single sheet of 4' x 8' plywood, but I can't remember for sure.
If this is too wacky, please disregard.

Hey:
Not too wacky at all.
I think I can make a shetch with dimensions.
I like the angled idea and will bounce it off my wife.
I willpost photos as I go along.
Thanks and take care

Hey, Dan. Just read your note. If you still need help I'll try to make a sketch of ascheuler's hamper plans, sounds like a good one.

Just a thought on this, but in one of the houses we built, afterwards I was checking out their hamper (not in the perverted sense :p)... It was cherry to match the woodwork in the room, and had the "potato bin" style lid. You could open it up, and it had a plastic insert, which was basically just a typical WalMart plastic hamper. Wifey would love this for the simple fact that this design looks pretty in the room, yet she can simply pull the "liner" out, clothes and all. (much lighter) :D

Thanks thekl0wn..
Still on my list of things to do, just have not had the time to try and make a sketch.
Will bounce your idea off my wife, sounds like a good one to me!
Take care and have a nice weekend!
Dan
Hey, Dan - I haven't forgotten you. Just too many other things going on.

Hey Don:
Like I said, no worries I completely understand abuot being busy.. Pulled an all nighter last night at one of the restaurants we deal with in town and found out I DO NOT bounce back at 55 years old like I did when I was in my 30's..:)
Anyway, whenever you get a chance will be just fine.
Thanks and take care
Dan
