I plan to drill some round dog holes 3/4" on my workbench on the small front vise end. It's 2-5/16" thick. 8 holes (2 rows of 4) that will line up with holes I put in the front vise jaws. I want to make straight holes & I don't think I'm good enough with a hand drill & make them perfect.
If so , how? what bit(s) are needed. Type of jig?

Do I drill a 1/2" hole with a drill first then clean it up with a 1/4" or 1/2" router bit & jig?
(I have a 2-1/2" straight router bit) I was thinking of making a jig with a 6-1/8" circle (router base is 6")

If not, what about a jig for a 3/4" drill bit? (brad point or forstner bit?)

Any tricks & tips?

Hey, Bogy - You don't have a drill press? I don't think you will like the router idea. It sounds good in theory but if it grabs in the small hole it will be ruined. A jig for a brad point that was drilled on the drill press is your best bet. A forstner will not guarantee a vertical hole.

Good luck, looks great!
