hey jcclark, that dresser looks really nice! I'd have to say cherry is one of my favorite woods. my entertainment center is cherry and walnut.
nice job on the drawers also. I've been looking for a reason to learn how to do dovetails. I guess I've always been intimidated by them.
beautiful dresser man!

Very nice.
The wood grain stands out great, what kind of finish?

The top is a automotive urethane finish.
This is the first time trying it on wood, I like it.
The rest of the cabinet is regular lacquer, sprayed on.
I need to look into sealing the wood to eliminate blotching,
or useing a different type stain, maybe a dye.
That's my next investigation.

I promised my son a bedroom set if he gave me a grandbaby,
my grandson is 10 months old now, so I got to stay busy.

With cherry and its natural tendency to blotch the worst type of stain would be a dye. your best bet is to use a GEL stain which may take longer to reach the depth of color you want but will give you much better control over the color and blotching. Same goes for knotty pine. HTH Eric
