Hey everybody, I am new to the site, but I am looking for a plans for a simple benchtop router table, I have one in mind made out of MDF to clamp to a workbench, the fence just moves freely and is clamped down to the router table. Any ideas?

Hey, Farmerkev and welcome to the forum. I have a simple one on a stand that I will try to take a picture of tonight.

It is very simple. I cut a hole in the surface the same size as the baseplate. I then made four 3/4 x 3/4 x 3" arms and fastened to the underside. I then drilled and installed flat head screws into these arms. These arms are installed in places to not interfere with the base or router operation. Take the router from the base and install from the top, adjust the screws until it is flush with your surface. Insert the router into the base from the bottom.

Make a simple right angle fence to clamp to this surface and you're done.

The benefit of this is that the work is riding right on the base plate, the router can breath a little better, and it's easier to set up short bits.

All the best, Don

Hey Kev, welcome!

I've used a piece of plywood with a hole cut in it. Then clamped it to a workbench. Try to post a pic tonight after work.

Hey Don, looking forward to seeing your pic.

Good luck with it Kev, and post pics when you're done. :)

Check out the white melamine covered particle board sold at
Home Depot. It's made for shelving and comes in various sizes.
I just got a 24"x48" panel for around $12.00.
It's much slicker than laminate.
I use it for all my tops and jigs. :)

For a quick one I usually go with MDF. I usually take the time to mount a proper plate though. Then you can just clamp any straight edge on it and let-er rip! Many good ideas above.
