Hi guys,

I've been searching the net for DIY duck call instructions but can't seem to find any sources. I know the mechanics of a duck call but wanted to see if I could find some sort of examples of how to build one properly and tune it properly.

Has anyone ever turned acrylic? Any special techniques?

Anyone have any ideas? I was going to turn a wood one and then maybe experiment with acrylic if I had fun.

I did find this though recently: http://www.customcalls.com/makeaduckcall.htm it could be a start.

I've been on vacation for the last 4 weeks or so. Been pretty busy. I'll be back regularly come Wed :D

I've turned a few acrylic pens. Your tools have to be sharper than with wood, and keep them sharp as you work. You also don't want to overheat the acrylic, so just take it easy. It generates a lot of static electricity that causes the "chips" to stick to the turning. You constantly have to brush them off so you can see what you are doing. IMHO -- not as much fun as turning wood.

Thanks for the tips. I'm probably going to try Acrylic first since it appears to be the preferred medium for duck calls. Better density and not affected by moisture. I'll take it slow and see how things go.
