I have been a woodworker for about 30 years. I got started when we were expecting our 4th child in a small three bedroom home. My friend and I checked out a Time-Life book on adding on. We cut the roof off our home and then you are committed.

I then started making toys for my kids and then started going to craft shows to buy more tools. I turned a hobby into a job so quit and started making furniture for myself and kids.

My latest project is a Morris chair which is all done except the top coat over the stain.

Hey, Domer and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry for accidentally deleting your first post (and other's comments)

I'm sure other guys would like to hear more about how you turned your hobby into a business.

Please show us a picture of your chair as you are working on it.

All the best, Don

Welcome to the site Domer!
Yes please, tell us how you turned your hobby into a full time business.
I would love to be able to turn woodworking into a fulltime business and get out of remodeling.

Welcome - I would also love to hear how you went into a full time business. I would love to quit the day job and be strictly a woodworker.

Hi Domer,

I don't quite understand if your hobby became a job, and you didn't care for that and quit, or if you are earning a living in woodworking.

From my perspective, doing professional woodworking entirely unconnected to the building industry would be very difficult. Toys, furniture etc are either super-competitive or super high-end which is a world with many talented competitors. Renovation/remodeling offers a natural segue to woodworking. It also happens in reverse occasionally.
