I have a few of the 2-1/2" boards (workbench project) that have bad knots & other defects. I plan to cut the defects out & rejoin the board. I may need to make them longer after defects are cut out.
Is doweling the ends back together with regular glue OK since they will all get glued & sandwiched with the weldwood glue?
I want to also dowel & glue the dog boards to the ajacent board in the sandwich to have them ready when I get the resin. Will it be OK to use regular wood glue for these steps?
Also I was going to drill a 3/8" hole in each board & run 3/8" "all thread" to align the dogs holes. 3 total, close to the ends & one in the middle. this will also help when I join the 3 together. Gives me steps to do while waining for the glue.
To clean the resin from the dog holes I was going to make a tight-headless dog & push it through each hole after all clamped. Then maybe pull a damp cloth thru the holes.

PS found the glue. Ordered from http://jamestowndistributors.com
I bought the 4.5 lb bucket not knowing if 1lb or 4.5 lb is a gallon.
"Dap weldwood plastic resin glue" . Found none in stores here.
Got 8 pipe 3/4" pipe clamps now. Loews had 4, HD had 2 & I had 2.

Thanks

Tried dowels on junk pieces. Edges & face didn't line up close enough.
Decided to just put the 2 boards in when I glue.

Hey, Bogy. If your defects are below the edge or will be on the bottom of the bench I wouldn't bother. Plus, as you found out, you can simply alternate end splices between full length runs. I wouldn't get too carried away with this however (i. e. number of splices) , being a newbie to this type of glue-up will be a bit of a challenge to begin with. As I allowed before, use some fluted dowel pins to "align" your loose parts, but glue it all at the same time, using the same glue.

The 1lb bucket is about a quart, the 4.5lb is the gallon pail size. You would not have had enough for your project with the 1lb size.
