Here is a project from a few years ago when I was trapping.
Hope trapping don't offend anyone.
I could get $30 for a beaver pelt.
I decided to see if I could get more so I framed one.
My buddy who cut his little finger off on the cut-off saw avoiding a hammer did the critter drawings.
Framed with red oak & walnut. Turned walnut knobs for the lacing pegs.
I tanned the hide with the acid tanning method. cut a 1" cicular strip out of the hide & laced it back in with the middle, skin side to the front.
Larry liked it so much he wanted to draw Alaska animals on it.
After it was done I didn't think the money I'd get would come close to replacing the stories it remind me of. My wife even liked it.
Everybody at work wanted one after they saw this one so Larry would draw & I'd trap. Don't think anyone ever sold any but we made about 10. Each one a little different. This is the only one we cut the 1" strip out of & reversed the center.

Hope the picture make it. Using photobucket this time.
3rd edit & I think the pictures made it.

Looks like and interesting project. I can see why they were poplular. The pictures did come up well, looks like you've got it figured out. I've never been to Alaska, Beavers up there are shaped a lot different than the ones I see on the Discovery Channel.

Sweet Dave!

Are those dowels connecting the two outer pieces?

Tks.
I made a long fence with dowels & cut them to make a octogon (almost).
Had to modify just a little, beaver hide aren't quite round, they tend to be a little longer than they are wide.
