This really isn't wood... More sawdust and glue, but thought a few might be interested. I'm prepping for installing a computer in my Tahoe, and I'm planning on housing most of the electronics in a center console up front... It's a hybrid MDF & fiberglass project that has just got underway, but here's a sneak peak from this weekend:
Housing for the 10.4" touchscreen:

More to come! :D
One can never have enough computer capability at 65 mph. Let us know how it turns out.

Very cool, keep posting pictures of the progress... I have always wanted to try the MDF and fiberglass technique of automotive audio/video console crafting.

It's very addicting! :D
In "Phase II", I'm planning on replacing all of the back plastic with MDF/FG for the low-end section. But first, I've got to make new front door panels and kick panels for the highs.

I can see it now,
"computer, fetch me a beer from the ice-chest". . . . " computer, any new posts on the buzz". . . . . "computer, where's that hot chicks house I met last night"
:D
Do keep us posted K, curious how it turns out.

And just for reference, here's a link to a bit more in-depth description of the build. This is also the thread I'll probably keep most up-to-date.

Also, just checked UPS's site, and my mobo/CPU/HDD/memory is sitting in the garage at home! I'm like a kid at Christmas! :D

Cool thread, I'll have to follow it. I used to be quite the car audio fanatic when I was younger... 142 db playing not so bass heavy Motley Crue... with bass heavy music you didn't want to be in the car :D Oh, the good old days. Now my home theater is my music/theater experience. 120db 15' from the subwoofer at 10Hz in the theater room. Still in my blood.

Two of the guys I work with are wanting to do a serious upgrade to their HT, and have already asked me about building either all the speakers, or at least their subwoofer(s)! I'm pumped, because I love the HT end as well, and can't wait to get my own house to convert into an HT... Two rooms... Kitchen/bathroom/garage/bedroom and the HT/office!!! :D

Building speakers can become quite addicting as I'm sure you know.

Might as well throw this one out there:

The dusty Dayton HO 10" tuned to the lower 30's. I know, the port surface is less than it should be. :o I can't stand high-tuned boxes, but I let it go a bit higher since it's only a 10", and there's a lot of cabin for it to fill.
I'll have to get some pics of some of the speakers and grills I've made as well. I really wish a had less expensive hobbies! :D

Yeah, my hobbies are pretty expensive as well. Probably not worth it unless they have the potential to bankrupt you. You can see some of the speakers I've built on my website in my signature if you haven't already.

That Tempest end table is still one of my favorite sub builds to date! I've been looking for someone to fund a build very close to this! :D

That was the first sub I had ever built... I wanted to go all out so I had a lot of fun with it. It is unfortunate that my current IB sub isn't really seen but it is worth it. The Tempest was a pretty decent performer as well. It bested many commercial subs costing several times more. I've found nothing that can compare to my IB at any price though so I'm in heaven now. I'm getting the itch to build new main speakers though.

The passenger side top corner is the only place I have an issue with fitment, but that's why they make Bondo!

Looking good! I just bought a Tomtom wide screen navigation system. I'm trying to think of half decent mounts. Don't want to build anything like what you are doing but need some options.
Looks like fun. Reminds me of the overhead consoles that we used to make during the van days. Fitting stuff to such abstract surfaces can be a real challenge. Hot glue is a lifesaver for making mockups, huh?
